Intern Inspiration

Last week I officially started my  internship with Joi of Dress Forms Design Studio and I am absolutely taken by this amazing opprotunity. I not only get to spend my days in the fabulousness that is her studio, but I also get to create graphics projects that I’m passionate about. (I have a role in developing Designer Joi’s first annual Sewing Holiday!) I don’t mind waking up early and indulging in some granola artwork before heading to work! And I definately don’t mind clicking away on my computer while surrounded by  walls of thread and bolts of the finest fabric. I can’t wait to see what fun projects lay ahead to enhance the vision of a fashion sewing queen in the Midwest.

Thrifty Treasure

Racks upon racks of discarded clothing, and all I can think is YIPPEE! Let the thrift shopping treasure hunt begin.

Here are some tips:

  • Always have a vauge idea of what you’re looking for. You don’t want to waste time wanderig around with no goal in mind.
  • Set a spending limit, this way you don’t end up going over board. Sometimes I forget that the cheap prices add up.
  •  I usually have the best luck rummaging the backs of shops and start there.
  • Take your time and browse the whole store. I once found a t-shirt in the men’s section that is now a personal favorite.
  • As an experienced thrifter, I have learned not to rule out anything. If it catches your eye, try it on! It might just become an essential to your wardrobe.

I celebrated my successful finds with an impromptu photoshoot and video, courtesy of my trusty tripod. (In case you where wondering…I’m munching on youget-covered raisins and organic grape soda!)

Brunch Ballad

I find myself wondering, “Why have I never attended Gospel Brunch at the Sioux City Conservatory of Music before today?!” The music was spectacular, the people were kindhearted, the food was oh so delicious, and the atmosphere was charming.

Today they celebrated Sister Rosetta Tharpe, one of the greats who dared to sing her spiritual music in bars and spread His message. So inspirational!

I’m kickin’ it in a floral dress and my worn in combat boots. (These little black things are too precious to give up in the humidity) I had a blast and definatley plan on becoming a regular!

Blame it on the summer heat, but lately my outfits have been skillet sizzling. As soon as I throw on these boots and Florence’s new album, I’m stoked to leave campus for my daily walk. Today instead of following the trails, (I have awoken that adventurer spirit) I wandered the weeds and flowers beds. I finally see that yes, it’s great to want to go and see new places, but it’s far better to appreciate where you are at the moment!
